Participating in the Moot
How to sign up as a Reader
To attend as a reader for the first time,
-
Email the MWM admin (Matt) to introduce yourself and get added to the mailing list. mplrmoot@gmail.com
-
Visit our Policies page. (I know, policies, blah. But seriously, read it. It's short, and if you don't read it, we might be able to tell.)
-
Sign yourself up to attend a moot via the sign-up sheets linked on the Time & Place page. Each moot is limited to 10 attendees, including authors and moderator.
One week before the moot, you will receive an email with the submissions attached.

Read the submissions thoroughly and mark your comments. You may work on paper, or digitally if the author has said that's okay. (Check the intro to their document for this detail.)
If printing costs are a hardship, please contact the moot admin for assistance.
How to sign up as an Author
You must attend one moot as a reader before you are
eligible to submit work.

To attend as an author, check the sign-up sheets linked on the Time & Place page to see when author slots are available and sign yourself up.

Read the Submission Guidelines below, and carefully follow the instructions.

Submission Guidelines
The MWM relies on equitable participation.
-
If you have been and author in the last 3 months, please give others the opportunity to submit.
-
If you have submitted work, please try to attend as a reader at least once before submitting again.
The Moot admin reserves the right to enforce equitable participation in the Moot.

Page limits:
-
For fiction or non-fic, plays, screenplays, etc: up to 20 pages of writing in 12-point Times New Roman or Courier, double spaced.

-
For poetry: up to eight pages single-spaced in 12-point Times New Roman or Courier, one poem or two haikus per page
-
No funny business with margins, etc. For running text, we want about 300 words per page.

Add a brief introduction to your document that includes:
• context (is it a memoir, part of a novel, etc.)

• any relevant content warnings

• what kind of feedback you are looking for

• whether you prefer electronic or paper feedback

• your email address.

Then save your document as a PDF with page numbers. (This is critical to ease of discussion.)

Make the file name of the PDF:
MWM-[your last name]-[date of the moot].pdf

One week before the moot, email your PDF to mplrmoot@gmail.com.
... and be sure to read and prepare feedback for the other author's work.
